Who is your instructor?

Cristina Garvie is a fellow interior designer with over 8 years of commercial interior design experience. She has worked both on the client and design side as an Occupancy Planner, Commercial Interior Designer and Workplace Strategist. She received her NCIDQ certificate in 2014. Her passion for education is only overshadowed by her commitment to success for her students. Cristina very graciously gives her time to helping interior designers pass the NCIDQ exams and loves hearing that her students have passed their exams. When possible, we will have guest speakers that are experts in their field.

What do I get when I register?

You will receive an e-mail welcoming you to the class.

eBook: ​If you selected the eBook option, a link with Download instructions will be provided. You can print the eBook for your use in class.

Booklet: If you selected the booklet option, a hard copy of the eBook will be mailed to the address you provided within three business days.

A calendar invite will be sent to you as well including the address for our in person sessions and a video conference number. If you are local to the San Diego area it is highly recommended you attend in person, although we do our best to be an inclusive class. You will still need to procure a copy of the Interior Design Reference Manual in order to be prepared for class. 

What is in the eBook/Binder?

The eBook/Binder is organized by chapter and includes:

  • a 11 week reading schedule

  • Terms to know

  • Discussion questions to answer as you read

  • PowerPoint slides that are covered in class

  • Hands on exercises

  • Practice questions

You mentioned we will be reading a book from cover to cover. What book will we be reading?

Our class uses the sixth edition of the Interior Design Reference Manual: Everything You Need to Know to Pass the NCIDQ Exam by David Kent Ballast as the foundation for our study group. This book, in addition to the eBook, are required for this course.

Will these sessions be recorded?

Yes! Class recordings will be available throughout the duration of the study group. When possible, it is preferred that you participate in class during our scheduled sessions, so we can have a rich dialogue and get any of your questions answered.


Can I bring food to the study group?

Yes, please! I know I can't think on an empty stomach, so if you need to bring dinner, snacks, etc. please do!

What if I am not located in San Diego?

Our sessions are open to anyone willing and able to call into our weekly meetings. Provided you have a strong internet connection for the video calls each week, you should be able to follow along and participate with the other (in person) students.


What if I don't plan on taking all three exams at once?

A lot of the content for all three exams overlap. In the reading outline you receive, we have broken out each class by test content. You can chose which classes to skip based on this information, but you will likely need to attend 8 out of 10 classes to cover any one of the exam's material.
